AUTISM BENEFIT:
To: City Council
My name is Michelle (Shine) Drum. I was born in Lackawanna and still currently reside here. My three year old son, Nathaniel was diagnosed with Severe Autism at the age of two years. He has been attending Buffalo Hearing and Speech since the age of two for therapy and school and has shown much improvement in his development and growth. I feel strongly that Autism is a cause that deserves more awareness and education of the public. I have decided to put together a benefit to help support Autism Awareness called “Speak for Autism Benefit”. Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center has given me their full support in this effort.
Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center is a not-for-profit organization and will be the recipient of all the proceeds from this fundraiser. They will then use the proceeds towards funding Autism Awareness education, medical research and funding therapy programs.
The Knights of Columbus, 2838 S. Park Ave. , Lackawanna, NY, has graciously donated their hall for this benefit on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 4pm to 11pm. Activities will hopefully include a petting zoo, bounce house and face painting for children. A Chinese Auction, door prizes and Autism Awareness souvenirs will be available for donations. Dinner will be served buffet style between 6pm and 8pm. live music will perform outside from 6pm until 10:30pm under the Knights of Columbus Entertainment License upon the City Council's approval. There will also be a beer tent present outside and security will be provided. I have applied for a Temporary Liquor License through the New York State Liquor Authority for the stated date.
We will be promoting this benefit throughout Western New York . This event will not only aid in the Autism Awareness cause but will also be beneficial to the City of Lackawanna . I sincerely hope for the Council's consent and approval of this benefit. I thank you for your time and consideration.
