RIDGE ROAD BRIDGE TRAFFIC CONTROL TO BE IMPLEMENTED 11/19/07

City of Lackawanna officials have announced that a traffic control plan will be implemented on Monday, November 19th, 2007 to facilitate the reconstruction of the Ridge Road Bridge Project and for general public safety concerns. The plan involves the installation of a temporary traffic control signal system over the Ridge Road Bridge in the City of Lackawanna, New York. The system will alternate traffic flow over the structure, allowing only a single lane of traffic to move either eastbound or westbound through the construction zone at any one time. The cycle time for the temporary traffic signal system is expected to be approximately three (3) minutes in duration which will cause backup of vehicular traffic, especially during the morning and afternoon peak travel periods.

The plan will also involve the closure of Lehigh and Ingham Avenues and will include the installation of appropriate signage at various side street intersections in an effort to minimize congestion through this travel corridor.

The traffic control plan will be in effect through the winter months and it is expected that it will be removed sometime in the Spring of 2008, returning to a normal two-way traffic pattern. In order to avoid traffic delays, motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes for the duration identified herein.

Motorists are also advised that during the winter months when the NYS Route 5 Complex and Skyway are closed due to severe weather conditions, vehicular traffic in both the eastbound and westbound directions will be prohibited from exiting at Ridge Road. During closure of the NYS Route 5 Complex and Skyway, motorists traveling in an eastbound direction (towards the City of Buffalo) should exit at NYS Route 179 and find alternate routes to their destination. Motorists who fail to exit NYS Route 179 and attempt to exit at Ridge Road in the eastbound direction will be redirected and sent back westbound towards the NYS Route 179 exit.
